Bolton Mountain Rescue Team covers an operational area from Darwen in the north to Manchester Airport in the south, Wigan to the west and the centre of Manchester to the east, a patch that might sound mainly ‘urban’ but which contains areas extensive areas of accessible moorland and open countryside popular with walkers, climbers, mountain bikers and horse riders.
