MREW Leadership Peer Support Programme:

Kerry Slater and Professor Divine Charura will be presenting an update on the pilot study for the MREW Leadership Peer Support programme, which was launched in December 2023. The professor led the pilot study, accompanied by Kerry as the project lead. Fourteen team leaders volunteered to take part in the study which was a new initiative aimed at supporting our leaders with the challenges of managing operational and team issues, as well as the impact of the leadership role on their own wellbeing. It was professionally facilitated in two groups by The Workplace Collective alongside those who understand these challenges the best: other team leaders from across England and Wales.

Six months on, with a new joint insight into the true complexities and unique challenges of the role across the different MREW regions, the team leaders shared their feedback on the process with the researchers. This session will be the first opportunity to hear the outcomes of the pilot from the member’s perspective, offering an insight into the team leader role across MREW and proposing ways in which more support can be offered for team leaders.

Kerry has been a psychotherapist for six years and worked with a broad range of clients including therapeutically supporting and supervising the fee earners of three large law firms. She has an MA in Psychotherapy and a Postgraduate qualification in Counselling. Her research interest has been in shame and low self-esteem and she has specific training in Trauma, Mindfulness, Bereavement, CBT and working with Anxiety and Depression. She is a member of the British Association and Counselling and Psychology (MBACP).
