At around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday 18th April, call-handlers from Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team were made aware of a 70 year-old woman trapped in an outbuilding in a remote property near Pennal.

The woman had fallen through the floor covering an old vehicle inspection pit some 48 hours earlier and was unable to escape or raise the alarm. Following up on welfare concerns raised by a family member unable to contact the woman, a Police Officer visited the property and noticed a set of keys hanging from the garage door. Investigating further, he located the woman trapped in the pit.

Team volunteers along with Police Officers and a Welsh Ambulance Service crew attended the incident, and, armed with a ladder, were able to assist the woman out. She was assessed by the WAST crew and found to be cold and dehydrated but, remarkably, otherwise in reasonable shape considering her ordeal.
