On the evening of Tuesday 14th May Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was tasked by Cumbria Police to an incident just below Helvellyn of three people in their early 20s who could no longer make their way down the fell and were crag-fast.

A team of seven Mountain Rescue Team members were dispatched to meet up with the three individuals. The casualties were found to be sheltering at the bad step and were cold and tired but otherwise safe. They were short-roped off the bad step and guided along the edge until they reached safer ground, and then made their way back to Glenridding.

We would encourage all visitors who are here to enjoy the Lakes to be prepared for hikes by visiting www.adventuresmart.uk and to plan timings and routes, even with the longer summer days.

The incident took 7 team members 5 hours
