Lost Walkers on Cader Idris
July 24, 2020
Shortly after 11:00 a.m. on Thurs 23rd July, call handlers from Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team were made aware of three walkers lost on Cader Idris.
The three male teenagers had walked from Barmouth the previous day and had camped near the Pen y Gader summit. Waking to poor weather they took the wrong path from the summit and descended to Llyn Cau rather than follow the Pony Path back the way they had come. Finding themselves beside the lake and unaware of the path along the shore, they took to their emergency shelters and called for assistance.
With an intermittent mobile phone signal at the back of the cwm, the call handler eventually contacted the party to confirm their position and to encourage them to move along the north shore of Llyn Cau to find the Minffordd path. Two Team volunteers were dispatched to intercept the the group. With some encouragement the walkers were able to find the route along the lake side and were met by Team members on the Minffordd path just below the lake outflow. The group was accompanied down to Minffordd car park from where they arranged a lift back to the north side of the mountain.
