Concerns for Camper on Cader Idris
August 14, 2019
At around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday 22nd August, call handlers from Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team were alerted to concerns raised about the well-being of a man camping on Cader Idris.
A hill-party was dispatched to make a welfare check, and the man, in his 50’s and from the Manchester area, was found unconscious in his tent. His condition was such that the Coastguard helicopter, R936, was requested to assist with the evacuation. However, as the man was being made ready for transportation, the cloud-base fell to a point where the helicopter could no longer be of assistance. Instead the man was carried down the Minffordd steps by stretcher, a long and difficult carry, and handed over to a Welsh Ambulance Service crew for further assessment and transportation.
Everyone was safely off the hill by 11:45 p.m.
