Air Sports Incidents: Technical Rescue Considerations:

Matt is a member of Langdale Ambleside MRT (LAMRT) and a trainer at Lyon Equipment Limited. Based in Cumbria since 2009, he is a keen climber, fell runner and rescue technician. He has a background in facilitating outdoor activities to a wide variety of clients, having worked freelance in outdoor centres, climbing walls and adventure parks across the UK.  Matt also has experience providing safety provision at extreme sporting events. Joining Lyon Equipment in 202, he found the ideal fit for his passion of providing relevant training opportunities to a broad spectrum of the adventure activity, work at height and rescue community.

Having attended several incidents involving paragliders and speed wingers, the team sought to develop training opportunities to broaden the knowledge and skill base of the mountain rescue community across the Lake District. With the support of local air sport enthusiast Rob Dewhurst, LAMRT hosted an introductory session in Autumn 2023.  A follow-up practical session is planned for early summer 2024, to be held at Lyon Equipment. This will focus on the technical rope rescue considerations during an incident in which a casualty may require rescue from height. The findings of these sessions will be presented at the conference.
